Dear Senator Cruz,
I am writing today on behalf of the 750,000 members of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens, in strong support of your bill, S. 1292, the “Defund ObamaCare Act of 2013.” This significant piece of legislation addresses a crucial change necessary to unburden the public – particularly mature Americans and seniors – from the harmful impacts of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), known more commonly as “ObamaCare.”
In an effort to protect families, individuals, and small businesses from “government-first” health care, S. 1292 deauthorizes future appropriations and withdraws prior funding for the implementation of any provision under PPACA. This timely bill strips ObamaCare of its power to enforce a number of troubling provisions, including the individual mandate that requires all Americans to purchase health insurance, as well as the employer mandate, which compels businesses with 50 or more full-time employees to provide health insurance to workers. For real health care reform to occur, AMAC urges Congress to start at the beginning by defunding this convoluted, cumbersome law.
Of note, AMAC conducted a petition drive asking the U.S. Congress to do exactly what your bill is seeking now. In fact, AMAC received over 117,000 signed petitions from our members calling on Congress to defund ObamaCare. AMAC has always felt that PPACA was far too costly, invasive, and complicated and that the Federal government is not the proper entity to realistically enforce the blizzard of rules and regulations established under the law. The Obama administration’s recent delay of the employer mandate clearly illustrates this fact.
Like a majority of American citizens, AMAC remains very concerned about the future of health care in our country and how ObamaCare – should it go unfixed – will affect both economic strength and consumer choice. AMAC advocates for responsible reform to the American health care system, including addressing the rising cost of health care and protecting the doctor-patient relationship. Thanks to your diligent concern for these same issues, AMAC is more than proud to support S. 1292, the “Defund ObamaCare Act of 2013.”
