OPINION: We Now Know – Trump’s Leadership Saved Lives

trump leadershipAs America emerges from COVID-19 and States reopen wholesale or by county, shadows are giving way to sunlight, furrowed brows to smiles, and reality is returning.  Four facts define this moment, and they are encouraging – not discouraging.

First, the tipping point has come – and many medical professionals acknowledge it.  The downside of shelter-in-pace, stay-at-home policies – which has necessarily translated into no work, no pay, and closed businesses – appears to be overtaking risks of interaction.

In other words, the personal, community, and societal costs of forced inaction and concentrated social confinement – including elevated drug, alcohol, child and spousal abuse, stress-related heart attacks and strokes, postponed cancer treatments and surgery, second-order consequences of delayed elective surgery, diagnosis and medical response, and even elevated crime in many cities – increasingly seems to outweigh shrinking risk of new COVID-19 deaths, at least before the recent spate of early June, close-up protests.

In some places, including cities and suburbia, masks and social distancing remain a precaution, if not commercially or legally required, but use for outdoor recreation, in commerce, and certain community engagements is tapering.

While guidance from the medical community – including CDC – has fluctuated and at times been contradictory, a consensus before June’s protests was that cost-benefit analysis augured for reopening.

On the numbers, more than 50 percent of COVID-19 deaths have occurred in one percent of US counties, which encompass roughly 15 percent of the population; more than 50 percent of counties have had no deaths.  While facts continue to change, a tipping point is here.

Second, while mutual recrimination surrounding management of this Chinese-origin pandemic may endure as a political issue, the pendulum appears to be swinging away from making COVID-19 deaths the daily news lead.

The inference is that, barring spikes from no-mask-no-distance protests across the US, this pandemic is in retreat, deaths down in most states, testing available, citizen self-interest superseding government mandates.  That too is good news.

Third, as increasingly reported by those reviewing numbers, more medical professionals “are crediting the Trump administration’s early, much-criticized virus response with saving lives,” and “keeping the pandemic’s death toll from becoming even worse.”  See: https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/pandemic-task-force-deaths-projection/2020/05/27/id/969321/?ns_mail_uid=7d360df5-f282-4321-9558-aa1a876b533c&ns_mail_job=DM114535_05282020&s=acs&dkt_nbr=010104rxzza2

Numbers are telling a story that mainstream media does not appear interested in reporting.  While more than 101,000 Americans have died of COVID-19, roughly a quarter were in nursing homes.  These deaths accelerated when governors relocated COVID-19 patients into nursing homes – often over local objections.

Mortality numbers – in review – appear to demonstrate that President Trump’s focused, fast, consistent, and undeterred resolve in frontally addressing the virus – may have saved an inordinate number of American lives.

For context, annually America loses more than 635,000 to heart disease, 598,000 to cancer, 161,000 to accidents, 154,00 to chronic lower respiratory infections (prior to COVID-19), 142,000 to stroke, 80,000 to diabetes, 51,000 to the flu (and flu-related pneumonia), 70,000 to drug abuse, 50,000 to kidney disease, 45,000 to suicide, 39,000 to septicemia, and 38,000 to chronic liver disease. Like COVID-19, these diseases are discoverable, preventable, and treatable.

On the infectious disease front, globally we lose 1.5 million annually to tuberculosis, while 140 million get dysentery and 1.5 million die of diarrheal diseases. Fully 228 million contract malaria, more than 400,000 dying, and 36 million acquire HIV annually, 1.1 million dying.

In short, the impact of COVID-19 is significant but – as questions surface related to death certificates (e.g. Colorado reduced deaths from COVID-19) and forced concentrations in nursing homes – worth reviewing.

Objective reporting is tainted with spin, making death counts presidential policy, regardless of contradictory medical and death certificate data, gubernatorial missteps, and public actions.  Yet as Newsmax observed, “what is notable is how much drastically worse the early projections were, reflecting what could have happened had federal and state governments failed to act.”

For example, early projections by the Imperial College of London predicted the virus killing 2.2 million Americans, and NIH’s infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci projected a possible 1.5 million American death count. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation’s model projected up to 240,000 deaths, a number now revised downward by 40 percent.

In short, for all the critics’ crowing, President Trump’s swift action closing flights from China, then Europe, then US borders for non-commercial travel, then promulgating daily medical guidance, working with governors, establishing a presidential task force (i.e. preserving 10th Amendment freedoms), legally redirecting and personally pushing a retooling of the private sector, encouraging state mobilization of the National Guard to assist with sanitizing nursing homes, transporting dead, manning foodbanks and establishing operations centers – all had a significant positive effect.

A quick look at Europe offers the contrast.  While the US tallied 28 percent of deaths, Europe accounted for 48 percent – even though our population equals the top seven European countries.

Bottom line is: Democrats should be careful what they choose to politicize.  Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden lambasted Trump’s actions as “hysterical xenophobia and fear mongering,” telling audiences to give credit to his friends in China, disparage Trump.

Turns out, as the virus settles, the President was right – and Joe’s view from the basement window was obstructed by more myopic prejudice.

Fourth and last point:  This virus may be tapering permanently – or may not be.  We should know in ten days, when incubation ends for thousands who threw caution to the wind and protested in dozens of cities– absent masks and distancing.

We will then know whether we are safely out of the woods, beneficiaries of Trump’s precautions and herd immunity, or whether political activists have – rather audaciously – started a second wave.  Either way, actions taken by the Administration saved lives.  We should be grateful for that leadership, rather than the sort that shouts, accuses, yammers, gaffes and gets it wrong.

If I were a lefty, I would pray that there is not another successful businessman ( or woman) to replace Trump.
Manipulating govt workers is a menial task compared to matching wits with a savvy businessman. Different beast.
Who do the left thinks gives them all of their tax money anyway ?? What scares me is that the left dosen’t understand how trillions of dollars are sent from taxpayers to them every day. They probably think the Chi-Coms give it us to daily because they like us. Right.

Even after being handed what are ” opportunities” in their minds ( Covid, George Floyd) the dems still cannot lay a hand on Trump. New daily lies, media going beserk, Russia Collusion, phone calls with the president of
Ukraine, impreachment, white house big shots leaving, John Bolton, etc, etc, they just cannot do it. I feel sorry for them. But I would feel much worse if they had a coherent message. That would worry me. But for now and until Nov, I just hope they will continue their futile stupidity. The day the left gets a clue I will worry. Long live the
ignorant left.

Are we applauding Trump for acting quickly to stop the non-existent virus, or for purposely acting slowly because he was smart enough to know it wasn’t real? I just want to make sure we all have our story straight. It’s really awkward when I argue with my grandchildren in their stupid masks.

Trying to get it returned but grandkids say Amazon not doing that now because of Soros

And yet, you (she) got 52 up votes! Assuming those 52 do not wear masks and do trivialize the virulence of Coronavirus, perhaps I should blame them for killing 4 people I know. Knew.

If there is a 2nd outbreak in 10 days, the Dems will blame it on the initial states’ lifting of stay-at-home restrictions. Guaranteed they will NOT even mention the protests/riots having anything to do with 2nd outbreak.

You are correct, Pat R, but there will not be a second outbreak in ten days! Have a little faith …

It was overkill for some governors (CA specifically) to shut down the entire economy in places where there were few cases of the Wuhan virus. In fact, the whole state had relatively few cases and even fewer deaths, many of those attributed to the virus that were from other causes. In San Diego, at one point there were 194 deaths, which a supervisor found only 6 were truly from the virus. We’ve been lied to repeatedly, and Dr. Fauci is the worse offender. President Trump needs to fire him!! Except in a few places, hospitals were not overwhelmed; in fact, many were furloughing medical staff, and many are facing huge shortfalls in revenue and are at risk for closing. Disrupting people’s lives like was done, was not worth it.

And never will be–unfortunately! FOX news only reaches 3-5 million people and ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NPR ETC ETC reaches 30-50 million. so, herein lies a big problem and one of the reasons we have a well-brainwashed, public educated ANTIFA bunch of ignorant of our true history ruining our society. The only way we can rid our country of this cancer is to remove every teacher/professor who have been teaching anarchy for the past 30-40 years!

Point-1. The word *Teacher, and the Word Professor*, are in my opinion, “Not” to be utilized when describing what those individuals have been doing “TO” Our Country, rather than “FOR” Our Country! These “So Called, Self Proclaimed Teachers and/or Professors”, are “Absolutely Nothing Of The Sort Nor Kind!

Point-2. What the “So Called” teachers and /or professors within and of OUR Great America are though; Is a large grouping of people, of whom, had and have been fully indoctrinated into the “Marxist Socialist Order” thought processes, practices, and, “To Warp and Reshape” the minds and thought processes of OUR Country’s young, and younger yet, people within OUR Country, within OUR Nation.

Point-3. To the slightly lessor degree. These “So Called” teachers and professors; Have been allowed to continue with their well practiced and entrenched “Marxist Socialist Order”; For *Far and Above* too bloody long now; Within OUR Country’s, within OUR Nation’s physical borders, Period! It is *High Time* that the “So Called, and Self Proclaimed” (Teachers and/or Professors), within the physical borders of OUR Country, within the physical borders of OUR Nation, be fully “Ordered”, to “CEASE and DESIST” their *Marxist Socialist Order* practices, within OUR United States Of America, and To The Republic For Which It (She) Stands! Said “ORDER”, to be Fully Carried Out, and Fully Applied Upon those “Marxist-Communist” minded, “So Called” teachers, and/or professors, across the land(s), of OUR Great America; Less those who do not comply with the “Order” to Cease and Desist, shall find themselves, being the subject of a Federal Court Trial, and the charge(s) shall be mind you; Treason, as well as, Insurrection Toward and Upon, “The Constitution of OUR United States”!.

What is happening across America right now should disgust every decent person! … The hateful vitriol from the Progressively Communist Democratic Party is beyond belief. President Trump’s election has exposed just how far left the Democratic Party leadership has evolved. They can’t even hide their Progressively Communist agenda anymore. They can’t intimidate President Trump like they have every past Republican President since Ronald Reagan. His business background taught him how politicians govern to benefit themselves. The laws they enacted made it harder for businesses and citizens to prosper. His actions to deregulate are undoing how much the Democrats have been making the Government all powerful so that political bureaucrats “rule” instead of representing the citizenry! George Floyd’s unfortunate death disgusted everyone but angered Blacks into protesting and crazy Communist indoctrinated young people took advantage to riot, loot and burn all in the name of “Black
Lives Matter”!!! … Anybody even saying wait a minute: “All Lives Matter ” is shouted down and ostracized. Every so-called Democratic leader has been exposed by their actions that appear to destroy the businesses and citizens they are supposed to represent all because they know that President Trump is undoing their Progressively Communist agenda and that he must not only be stopped but God forbid he be re-elected to continue his destruction of their Communist agenda. The American people MUST RE-ELECT PRESIDENT TRUMP or these Communists will regain power and nothing will then stop them from destroying Capitalism!!! … American values are at the risk of being destroyed if they regain the Presidency!!! … God Bless America and EVERY citizen must vote to re-elect President Trump!

Totally agree. Saw a list of all the Marxist, Fascist and Communist (out-in-the-open) organizations operating in the US legally. Every member of government, esp. Congress, should read The Communist Manifesto. We could use a McCarthy these days.
I read elsewhere some time ago that our government now is corporate-run (corporatocracy – if that is a word). With all the ‘benefits’ (bribes) given Congress by lobbyists, worse today than ever before, it would appear so. Just like term limits, Congress will never make a law to eliminate lobbyists – their gravy train.

From Patricia: You have just given us the truth as we see it and thank you for your wisdom. I couldn’t have said it better even though I had some of the same thoughts. I cannot believe those hoodlums were allowed to go in and destroy property that belonged to hard working people who had nothing to do with the death of Floyd. They should all be locked up in jail for destruction of personal property and robbery. Probably most of them don’t even have a job and have never done anything good in their life. I am not bias against their race because I grew up with parents that would never let us say or do anything negative towards them. We were taught to respect all people because they were human beings. But it seems to me that every time one of them gets shot or killed that is their excuse to just go in and tear up and burn down everything others have worked so hard for. All of them need to read and understand the Golden Rule and get an education so hopefully they will quit doing dumb things. Lately I have been discussed with all of them and I wonder how much George Soros has funded them to do all of this. There is bad in all situations and these people are bad to the core. They have no respect and personally I think they are making things worse for themselves because I think we light skinned people are fed up and will no longer think positively about them. They think they are the only ones that matter? How about all those white people they have killed and maimed? I have seen some very disturbing videos of what they do when they just walk down the street. They see a white person or kid and start beating them up for no reason. How about white lives matter too.
